Dogs need to run free and off-leash on occasion for good exercise. Special enclosed dog parks offer this opportunity in the Cedar Rapids area year-round, even during the cold winter months. Some apartment communities, including Pheasant Run, located on the west side of Cedar Rapids, also have special areas for dogs.

Local parks also offer opportunities for dog owners to socialize and exercise. Some parks that include areas for dogs also offer other recreational opportunities. The parks are always fenced with many acres of grass, gravel, trees, and hard surfaces.

Dog owners must have a permit from the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation office to enter all dog parks in the city. The permit requires proof of rabies, distemper, and parvo vaccinations for your pet. Owners need to know the dog's tag number. A day pass or an annual permit is available. Permit holders agree to follow the rules posted by the Parks Department. They are also advised to check the times the dog parks are open.
